Its cool that you can play with friends that may have chosen a different server, or you make new friends later that are on a different server. But at the same time, seems like it may be harder to get to know people on your own server if everyone is off somewhere else. I guess in the end there probably wouldnt be too many people off on another
You can use that yes, or use the character name your friend is currently using to add them as a friend. The game will automatically change the name to your friends account name. No matter what character they are using they will show up, it will just change the name accordingly.
Actually this is part of the tests. Would note your normal weekly queues compared to the beta queues and provide feedback. Part of the WR is attempting to add and reduce the number of servers (in blocks of 3) to handle increases and decreases in population overtime.

Since Guild Wars 2 does not include in-game voice chat, players must use third party software, which requires a server (to connect players) and software running in the background on the player's computer. Server Transfer is free if no Characters were existent on the Account, so far i know. So if your Account doesnt own any Characters, you should be able to transfer to EU/US Servers without using Gems. I think this is true only if you haven’t yet created a character.
