Other than the slight softness and rather high CA from 200-300mm though, the performance of the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor (yeesh, that's a mouthful) was really excellent. And

80-200 ED vs 70-200 2.8 vr1. I recently purchased a Nikon 80-200 2.8 ed paired with a nikon d500 to shoot high school football. The picture quality is incredible, its built like a tank and I love it. However the lens seems to back focus and miss focus more than I would like it to causing me to miss some shots. Just posted! Our new lens review of Nikon's top-end fast telezoom, the AF-S VR-Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8G ED-IF. This is the first in a series of reviews in which we'll be comparing it with similar lenses from Canon, Sigma and Tamron, using both APS-C and 35mm full frame cameras.
So does the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR stand up to this latest examination of its abilities? Headline features . 70-200mm focal length range; fast f/2.8 constant maximum aperture; Optical image stabilization – 3 stops with automatic panning detection and 'active' mode; Ring-type ultrasonic focusing with full-time manual override
The weight of 1,245g is 195g less than the NIKKOR Z 70-200 f2.8 S VR. Even the renowned featherweight Nikon 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR is 215g heavier! If we mount the TC-1.4x Z teleconverter on the 400mm f/4.5, the weight is identical to the 500mm f/5.6 PF (okay, 5 grams / 0.01 pound heaver), and the lens is now a 560mm f/6.3. If money is no object: 70-200mm VR 2 f2.8. If money is object but FX: 70-200mm VR F4. If Dx camera: 70-200mm VR 1 f2.8. I could go in very long technical reasons why, but that might bore you. I thought the older VR1 70-200 could not auto focus on a DX camera like the 5200. ydDb.
